Flockers, with the beach season in full swing, I just want to throw the following reminders to everyone:
No teaching or instructing at this beach. If you want to provide lessons, head to Nickel Beach (NB) that's just 20min further west. Nickel Beach has beach parking, a significantly larger beach and much safer/easier water conditions (flat/small chop, shallower further out). Yesterday, someone was providing lessons right in front of a private cottage (with a massive concrete breakwall) and upwind of swimmers. It takes one incident for your student/buddy and/or the general public to get injured if something goes wrong.
This beach is not a beginner spot. The wave conditions can be very challenging and there are now a tonne of swimmers and beach goers all over. If you're just starting, again, please head to Nickel Beach. It'll be much more enjoyable and less stressful for you. Yesterday, someone crashed a kite right in the swimming area. Luckily someone was there to help this kiter out.
Please rig on the east side of the beach, which is downwind of the swimmers and beach-users. If you're one of the first kiters at the beach, please do this so that everyone else follows. Yesterday, everyone rigged up on the west side which meant kiters were riding through swimmers. Again, it will take one swimmer/beach-goer complaint to the Conservation Authority to get us in trouble.
I know these reminders come up every year. Hopefully these will help those new to this spot. If you have any questions, post away.
