Small bug noticed,

search a common theme, it says it returns like 20 pages but if you try to got to page 2 it turns up blank

Yes, I'm having the same problem. When you enter a search only one page displays--when you try to either click another page or click next it claims there are 0 results. Am I doing something wrong?

Another suggestion (though I'm not sure how feasible it is), when you search it displays every post that has a specific word not just every thread. My sense is that it is preferable to just index the thread and not every post...for some searches the first page of the results are all just posts from one thread even though there are likely many relevant threads.

lol - that's not really a solution.

that's a major redesign.

Coop's been kind enough to provide us this space for free.

having done something like that before i know it takes some serious hours.

Each CMS system has it's own way it stores content in it's database.

I have scripts for converting this all to phpBB but it would destroy(among many things) user passwords. Passwords are double hashed and would have to be re-created one by one.

just use what we have. it's not perfect but it is free.

There's a big update to this board that I've been holding off until I can really get it fully tested before I implement it. I'm by no means a technical web guy and so I really want to ensure things work properly before I screw up a great forum with lots of activity. Unfortunately, between a full time job and numerous other things I do, rolling out updates to the site may not happen as quickly as I would like. I have committed to myself to spend more time this spring and summer on it though.

Things I would like to implement:
-update the forum to a newer version, hopefully fixing some of the issues we see. eventually should see a poll option and then eventually multiple photo uploads in a post
-better social networking integration within the site (able to easily have your own user space, friends and connectivity to twitter/facebook etc.)
-update the photos and some content
-get users to contribute to some regular articles/blogs

And eventually - get some volunteers to help from the technical side of things, whether it be site maintenance, web and graphics and anything else. I'd really like to get this site bumping. We have lots of solid members who contribute to the forum, but it would be great to make it a full service site that provides even more value than it does now.

Keep the input coming, it doesn't go unnoticed. It just comes down to resources and availability for me. Hopefully one day I will be able to pay someone to get this site to some serious Web 2.0 design, but unfortunately I will need to wait until I have a higher paying job or some serious volunteers!

Hey Coop, thanks for all your effort and time you invest to provide us with this social networking tool.
One of the most valuable features on any forum is the "search" function, for obvious reasons... if there is anything to fix, certainly this is the one to invest time on. Maybe there is a way to use Google to offer site specific searches?

Quick temp fix

Go to Google

Type in your search term followed by "site:http://www.thechickenloop.com"

Without the quotation marks so it would look like this if you wanted to search for posts with my user name in them

There's another similar yet different problem. By skimming the posts I don't think it was mentioned.

When there is a topic in the forum with more than one page and from the forum page itself, listing all the topics, when you click on a thread it goes to the first page, but if you click on like "2" for the second page from the forum page it will redirect you to the main forum page out of the section you were already in.

The work around that I have found, which works, but is certainly not a solution is when I am trying to navigate from one page to an earlier page I select the "threaded view" button, it is beside the "My Profile" button on the gray bar. This allows you to skip to any post in the thread no matter what page it is on. When I get to the page I want, I simply switch back to "Flat View"
